Start Here, at this Website!

This website is filled with information and links to other sites which provide the history of the Ohio Proficiency Tests, results, and evaluations of Ohio Proficiency Tests and other standardized testing, and includes links from experts in the area, and good educational practices based in sound research.  There is much here, and we do not expect you to look at it all (unless you get as passionate about this as we have) -- we simply invite you to look at links that interest you the most.

While you are at it, if you have never seen the Ohio Proficiency Tests, download them from the Ohio Department of Education website, or you can request them for a copying charge of $.05 per page.  Oh, have some fun with it. See how well you do on it, whichever one you choose. Give it to friends and peers and see how they score.

Then ask yourself:  Is this developmentally and educationally appropriate for our children?  Does this truly measure the academic skills and learning processes that we desire for our children?  Should this single test be used to make high-stakes decisions such as grade advancement and graduation?  Does this provide such important and new information that it justifies time and expense spent on it?  Who was involved in creating the tests?
